As Pender County continues to grow, the need for jobs does as well.

PENDER COUNTY (WWAY) — Since 2018, Pender County has seen its workforce grow more than 18 percent.

As the county continues to see an uptick in population and economic growth, it’s aiming to bring in more high-paying jobs.

Two Amazon facilities are taking shape, bringing in 1,000 potential jobs to the area.

Scott Satterfield, the executive director for the Wilmington Business Development, says the companies moving in such as Amazon, are bringing a diverse range of job opportunity to the county.

“I think there’s a myriad of jobs for people there. There’s obviously a large component that goes into warehouse and distribution. Truck drivers, clerical staff, professional staff; you name it.”

As new industries look to move in, the counties agriculture is in danger. A report from American Farmland Trust says Pender County is projected to lose 15 to 30 percent of its farmland by 2040

Pender County Commissioner, Brett Springer, says the county will look to acquire more land to make room for incoming industries.
