Ashley advances to 3rd straight title game with 2-0 win over Millbrook

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — Ashley girls soccer will play for the Class 4A state championship after taking down Millbrook 2-0 on Tuesday.
In the final minutes of the 1st half, Kieran Bradley drew a foul that resulted in a penalty kick. She converted it to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead at the break.
With the rain starting to come down hard, Savannah Manset scored a goal early in the 2nd half on a shot that redirected off of the Wildcat keeper’s shoulder.
This win advances Ashley to the title game for the third year in a row. They will look to finish the job after dropping the last two.
“It says we have the grit and we want to win so bad,” Sarah Brannin said. “Regardless of what happens in conference. Regardless of what’s happened in preseason. That we’re willing to do what it takes. We’re willing to push ourselves as a family and as a program as a whole to get to that next level and to get a ring no matter how many times it takes us going to the state championship.”
Tuesday’s win also marks the 100th for Head Coach Erik Graf with the program.
Ashley will face Ardrey Kell for the title in Matthews on either Friday or Saturday. It will be a rematch of the 2023 state championship that the Knights won 3-2.
