Ashley High School teacher turnover ‘average’

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Turns out, turnover at Ashley High School in Wilmington is higher than WWAY was originally told. However, the number is on par with other schools in the area.

We told you earlier this week, we had questions about teacher turnover at New Hanover County schools. New Hanover County Schools Superintendent Tim Markley recently said in an interview that three teachers have transferred, but he wouldn’t say how many have retired from, or quit Ashley High School this year.

In an email from New Hanover County Schools spokeswoman Valita Quattlebaum Thursday, she said the high school has lost 13 teachers this year. She said the number is comparable with the average at other high schools in the area. New Hanover High school came in the highest. It lost 17 teachers this year.

The request came after a survey revealed there is low morale among teachers in the district.
