Ashley takes down Cardinal Gibbons 6-5 in 2OT to advance

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) – In the 3rd round of the NCHSAA girls soccer playoffs, Ashley earned a hard-fought 6-5 home win over Cardinal Gibbons in double overtime Monday.

After giving up the first goal, Savannah Manset tied it up at one on a penalty kick after drawing a foul in the box. It was the 100th goal of Manset’s career. Ashley would then take the a 2-1 lead after a tap in by Arianna Marshall.

The game was tied at four at the end of regulation despite the Eagles leading 4-1 with 11 minutes left. In the first overtime, Ashley scored less than two minutes in before the Crusaders tied it up. The Eagles scored again before the 10 minutes of overtime were over and held on in the second overtime frame.

Next up for Ashley is a road game against MEC rival Hoggard. The Eagles and Vikings split their two regular season matchups.
