Athletes compete in Special Olympics Spring Games
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Folks were in a great mood today out at the UNCW Track and Field.
That’s because today children and adults were able to compete in the Special Olympics Spring Games.
The competition includes events like softball and tennis ball throws, wheelchair events, developmental events, and track races.
“Events like this are great because they foster really good community spirit, and athleticism, and courage, and pride, and it really just shows kids and adults that it’s important to be kind, and exercise, and be happy,” said Annie Clifford, a Special Olympics Volunteer.
“It’s so active for the athletes to compete,” said Richard Hansen, a Special Olympics Global Messenger.
“I always come here to have a fun time,” said Ian Lerch, a participant.
“It’s all about attitude,” Hansen added.
More than 500 Special Olympics athletes ages 8 and up competed in today’s events.
