Attorney General and governor candidate Josh Stein makes campaign stop in Leland

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — North Carolina Attorney General and Democratic Governor Candidate Josh Stein made a campaign stop in Leland on Wednesday.

Stein spoke at Brunswick Beer and Cider as he makes several stops across the state this week. Stein was introduced by Leland Town Councilman Bill McHugh.

During his speech, Stein spoke about his plan to bolster education in the state. Stein hopes to bring back North Carolina’s Tax-Free Holiday Weekend for parents that are back to school shopping.

Stein has also proposed a stipend for teachers to buy supplies for students, raises for teachers, and free school lunch statewide.

“Here is a fact, if a child has hunger in his belly, when he’s sitting behind that desk, he is not going to be able to pay attention as much, he’s going to act up in class more. We want our children focused, healthy, ready to learn, having free lunches and free breakfast will make sure that our kids have the best chance at success,” Stein said.

Stein also proposed expanding career and technical education programs for students who don’t choose to go to college.
