Attorney General Lynch comes home to talk civil rights
RALEIGH, NC (AP) — US Attorney General Loretta Lynch says civil rights will be a focus as she serves as the nation’s top prosecutor.
Lynch on Wednesday visited Raleigh and Durham, where she spent 12 years of her childhood.
The first African-American woman to lead the US Justice Department took part in a forum on civil rights at North Carolina Central University in Durham.
Lynch says the Justice Department will help fight discrimination, hate crimes and human trafficking.
Lynch says hate crimes are “the original domestic terrorism.”
She also promised to help protect every Americans right to vote. The US Justice Department has challenged North Carolina election law changes made in 2013.
