Elizabeth Bynum joined the WWAY news team as the Managing Editor in September 2014. Before that she was the Executive Producer at WCTI in New Bern. During her five years at that station, the newsroom won numerous Associated Press awards including “Outstanding News Operation of the Year,” “Best Newscast” and “Best Website,” just to name a few.
In addition to producing award-winning newscasts and special coverage, Elizabeth helped to produce and coordinate coverage during several hurricanes. During Hurricane Irene, she stayed in the newsroom for 60+ hours of continuous coverage, often boothing portions of the broadcasts for 12 hours straight.
Elizabeth is a proud "Carolina Girl." Not only was she born and raised in a suburb of Raleigh, but she is also an alumna of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has a BA in Journalism and Mass Communication. At Carolina, she was an anchor for both the university’s Emmy award-winning television and radio newscasts. Elizabeth was also captain and an All-American for the university’s dance team, which consistently placed in the nation’s top 10 dance teams. If she weren’t in news, she’d be teaching dance classes at any studio she could find.
When not in the newsroom, Elizabeth likes to spend time with her husband Benjamin, their young son Macon and their chocolate lab Buddy. She’s very excited to be able to call Wilmington home!
