Authorities identify three construction workers killed in scaffolding collapse
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – Authorities have identified the three men killed when a section of scaffolding collapsed at a high-rise construction project in downtown Raleigh.
Police identified the dead as 41-year-old Jose Erasmo Hernandez, 33-year-old Jose Luis Lopez-Ramirez and 33-year-old Anderson Almeida.
Authorities say 53-year-old Elmer Guevara was taken to the hospital. His condition was not released.
The accident happened about 11 a.m. Monday.
The building’s general contractor is Choate Construction Company. A company spokesman says the accident happened as subcontractor Associated Scaffolding was dismantling the scaffold on the building’s exterior.
Parts of the scaffolding broke through windows of the 11-story building, while other pieces were in the parking lot.
