WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Avelo Airlines is closing its base at Wilmington International Airport and cutting service to 11 destinations from the airport, the airline announced Tuesday night.

The airline said the move is part of a broader effort to streamline operations around its four main bases in New Haven, CT; Philadelphia/Delaware Valley; Charlotte/Concord, NC; and Lakeland, FL. A new base is also planned in Dallas/McKinney, Texas, in late 2026.

Avelo will continue flights from Wilmington to Nashville, TN; New Haven, CT; Tampa, FL.; and Washington, DC/Baltimore.

The airline will discontinue service from Wilmington to the following destinations:

  • Boston, MA / Manchester, NH (MHT)

  • Detroit, MI (DTW)

  • Fort Lauderdale / Miami, FL (FLL)

  • Fort Myers, FL (RSW)

  • New York / Long Island, NY (ISP)

  • Orlando, FL (MCO)

  • Philadelphia / Wilmington, DE (ILG)

  • Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ)

  • Rochester, NY (ROC)

  • Washington, DC / Dulles (IAD)

  • West Palm Beach, FL (PBI)

In a statement, Wilmington International Airport said all of the affected destinations are also served by other airlines, including American, Delta, United, Breeze, JetBlue and Sun Country. Travelers impacted by the change will be contacted directly by Avelo.

The airline recently added Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic as its first international route from Wilmington, which will be discontinued under the new schedule. Commenters on ILM’s Facebook post claimed their upcoming booked flights had been canceled.

Avelo spokesperson Courtney Goff said the airline appreciates the continued support of Wilmington travelers and understands the impact the cuts may have. Customers with questions or seeking assistance can reach Avelo’s Customer Support Center.
