Avett Brothers play much different shows over the years

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A day after the Avett Brothers played the Belk Main Stage for the North Carolina Azalea Festival, we thought we’d do a Flashback Friday to another, much different show the band played in downtown Wilmington.

Back in 2003, there was a small music festival called the “Feel Good Fest” at the now-defunct Icehouse on Water Street.  Over three days, the festival featured several acts from all over the Carolinas, including a little-known trio from Concord called the Avett Brothers.  They played Sunday afternoon that weekend to a crowd that couldn’t have totaled more than 50 people.

Fast forward to Thursday night.

13 years later and approximately seven blocks across downtown, it was obvious that the crowds have grown exponentially.  Thousands came out to see the Avetts and their vastly expanded musical troupe.  A further example of how far the band has come?  Friday night they’re playing Madison Square Garden in New York City.
