Lejeune Marine sought in nationwide manhunt in custody
PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) — A Detroit-area news outlet says a Marine who was the subject of a nationwide manhunt after threats were made to his estranged wife has been arrested.
A Marine spokesperson tells WXYZ-TV Wednesday that 21-year-old Clenard Gee-Simmons is to be transferred to military custody.
Details of when and where he was arrested were not immediately released.
Authorities have said Gee-Simmons’ wife filed for divorce and that he fled Monday from a low-priority lockdown at North Carolina’s Camp Lejeune.
Gee-Simmons had told the television station Tuesday that reports he could be heading to Pontiac where his wife and her family live were “not accurate.”
