Azalea Festival President shares what to expect at 2026 festival

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The North Carolina Azalea Festival is underway, with events scheduled throughout the week leading up to a full slate of activities this weekend.

Festival President Michael Franklin said this year’s event begins with the Queen’s Coronation and continues with a variety of attractions, including the annual parade and street fair.

The Azalea Festival Parade is set for Saturday morning in downtown Wilmington and will feature more than 130 entries, according to Franklin. Participants are expected to include first responders, school groups and representatives from multiple countries.

“It’s a packed, full parade this year,” Franklin said. “We have over 130 entries, eight different countries represented. We have EMS, fire, sheriff, schools, middle schools, elementary, princesses, queens from all across the state.”

Festival organizers recommend attendees arrive early to secure parking and viewing spots. City parking decks will be open, with access available from Second Street.

In addition to the parade, Franklin highlighted several events throughout the week, including the Juried Art Show, a coin show and the street fair.

A free concert series, Tunes and Blooms, has been moved to Sunday this year and will take place at Greenfield Lake.

Franklin said the festival offers a wide range of activities for attendees.

“There’s something for everyone,” he said.
