Azaleas for garden tour arrive

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Even though the Azalea Festival is six months away, it’s time to start planting for it.

The Cape Fear Garden Club received more than 100 azaleas delivered from its sponsor, Encore Azalea. The company gives each garden owner ten plants free of charge.

Organizers like Sandra Kittinger were very excited as they waited for the flowers to arrive.

“It is like opening presents when the truck opens up. So we are going to sort what each garden owner and then they are going to come by and pick them up,” Kittinger said.

Organizers said they garden owners were able to pick out which colors they wanted for their gardens.
