‘Back the Blue’ ride held in Wilmington
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Hundreds of people from around the community turned out today to show their support for the Wilmington Police Department.
Cars, motorcycles and trucks piled into the parking lot near independence mall to kick off the event. Organizers collected a $5 donation from each vehicle to donate to the Wilmington Police Department.
After a ride around town, participants gathered in Monkey Junction to relax and show their support. Organizer Eric McClung said it’s all to show our police officers that people care.
“They put their lives on the line every day so it’s time that we show support for them,” McClung said. “With everything that’s going on, they’ve got a tough job, so they need to know there are people that support them and are there for them if they need it.”
The organizers said this is their first time planning an event like this, but with the kind of turnout they’ve had so far today, they say there might be another one in the near future.
