Bagwell, bats dominate in UNCW’s 13-0 win over North Carolina A&T

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) – Following a 16 inning loss on Saturday, UNC-Wilmington baseball rebounded in a big way with a 13-0 home win over North Carolina A&T on Sunday in the rain in seven innings.
In the 3rd, Bryan Arendt reached on a bunt and a throwing error allowed Kevin Jones enough time to score from first to break the ice.
The Seahawks put up three in the 5th, two of which came on wild pitches with a runner on third. They then scored nine runs in the 6th, capped off by a three run homer by Cole Nelson. He led the team with four total RBI’s while the team had 17 hits.
Starting pitcher Cam Bagwell, who threw a perfect game in his last start seven days prior, recorded his second straight complete game shutout, giving up two hits and striking out four.
The win prevents Wilmington from getting swept by North Carolina A&T and evens the Seahawks’ record at 14-14.
“When the guys come out and give a lead, it makes it really simple for me to fill up the zone and get ahead and make them hit the ball,” Bagwell said. “Those guys really helped me out at the plate.”
“The first two days, Friday and Saturday, were tough losses for us,” Head Coach Randy Hood said. “Put us in a situation where we really needed to get a win today and I was just happy the way our guys came out. Runs have been a struggle this weekend but we were able to get 13 of them today. It’s a nice win and we just got to keep building off today and hopefully have a good weekend ahead of us.”
