BALD HEAD ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — Bald Head Island Transportation wants the state to approve revisions to its ferry schedules from 30 minute departures to 45 minute departures.

The filing was sent to the North Carolina Utilities Commission on February 19th.

Currently the ferry must load and unload passengers and baggage dollies every 30 minutes and sail the 5-mile route between the two departure points.

Bald Head Island Transportation says annual round-trip ridership had grown from 570,000 in 2010 to 782,000 last year.

The application notes two runs are canceled on average every day, and there is enough room on the ferries to carry everyone who wants to go with the proposed 45 minute schedule.
