Barrier Fencing to create 151 jobs in Columbus County

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Barrier Fencing Supply Company will create 151 new jobs and invest $15 million to establish a headquarters and manufacturing center in Columbus County, according to a release from Governor Josh Stein.

“North Carolina’s southeast region and Columbus County are a terrific place to do business,” said Gov. Stein. “Barrier Fencing’s project brings good jobs and welcome investment there, and the company’s decision shows once again that CEOs recognize North Carolina’s advantages as a business location.”

Barrier Fencing Supply Company is a fencing wholesaler and distributor serving customers across the United States. Originally a fencing installation company, it quickly transitioned into manufacturing and supplying its own products. The Columbus County project will serve as the company’s headquarters and a manufacturing plant, allowing it to bring a significant portion of its production back to the United States.

“Our aim is to generate employment, assist those in need, and make a meaningful difference in the community,” said Tony Bowling, CEO of Barrier Fencing Supply Company. “Our goals and progress will be achieved thanks to the State of North Carolina and Columbus County. We are thankful and look forward to this partnership.”

Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley emphasized the state’s strong manufacturing sector as a key reason for the company’s decision. “North Carolina is the number one state for manufacturing in the Southeast, so it’s only natural that Barrier Fencing would choose to expand here,” Lilley said.

Although wages will vary by position, the average salary for the new jobs will be $44,114, slightly above Columbus County’s current average wage of $44,081.

A performance-based grant of $275,000 from the One North Carolina Fund will support the project. The OneNC Fund provides financial assistance to local governments to attract economic investment and create jobs. Companies must meet job creation and capital investment targets before receiving funds, and local governments must provide matching grants for any awarded funds.

“Making products in the United States strengthens our economy, so it’s great to see Barrier Fencing choose Columbus County for their new manufacturing plant,” said NC House Majority Leader Brenden Jones. “We welcome these new jobs and further private-sector investment to our region.”

NC Senator Bill Rabon acknowledged the teamwork involved in securing the project. “Many state, regional, and local partners worked hard behind the scenes to support the Barrier Fencing team during its site selection process,” Sen. Rabon said. “I appreciate this collaborative teamwork very much, and our community looks forward to supporting the company as they establish operations in Columbus County.”
