Baseball playoff wins for Whiteville and Topsail; Hoggard falls just short on Tuesday
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Hoggard Vikings never had the lead on Tuesday against Green Hope, but the Vikings kinda feel like they deserved to have it. After all, they extended Green Hope to extra innings in the first game of a best of three 4-A east championship series. Green Hope beat Hoggard 5-4 in 8 innings.

HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) — The Topsail Pirates really only needed one inning on Tuesday. The Pirates scored seven runs in the first inning and they beat Corinth Holders 7-0 in the first game of a best of three 3-A east championship series.

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — Whiteville hasn’t trailed in many games this season, but they trailed by two runs early on against East Carteret. The Wolfpack baseball team came back to win 4-3 in the first game of a best of three 1-A east championship series. “This group has faced adversity all year,” Whiteville head coach Brett Harwood told us on Tuesday. “We’re dealing with injuries and things like that, so it was just another situation that we had to kind of man up and fight through. Mackenzie obviously, it was a bullpen day for him really, and he came in and got the job done. I thought we made some good plays behind him.”
