WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Battleship North Carolina will be illuminated in red, white, and blue on the evening of Thursday, September 11, in observance of Patriot Day and in memory of those lost in the tragic events of September 11, 2001.

“The Battleship is North Carolina’s World War II memorial and a place of remembrance,” said Dr. Jay Martin, Executive Director of the Battleship North Carolina. “By lighting the ship in red, white, and blue, we join the nation in honoring those lost on September 11 while also recognizing the enduring strength and unity of the American people.”

Visitors to downtown Wilmington will be able to view the special illumination from the Riverwalk, nearby parks, and across the Cape Fear River beginning at sunset.
