BCSO: Man arrested for throwing dog off bridge, dog survives

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Brunswick County man is facing charges after allegedly throwing a small dog off a bridge into a creek.

Logan Melzer, 19, of Supply was arrested Tuesday and charged with animal cruelty by the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a warrant, Melzer “maliciously” tortured a tan-colored female terrier named “Peluchina” by throwing the dog off a bridge and into a creek.

Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Emily Flax said the dog survived the incident. Peluchina was taking to the vet this morning as a precaution but seems to be doing okay.

Melzer is being held under a $5,000 in the Brunswick County jail.
