Beach ranger resigns, Carolina Beach police now hires for position

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Less than two months after he was hired, the Carolina Beach beach ranger has resigned.

Since then, the Carolina Beach Police Department has taken over to step up enforcement at the beach.

The ranger patrols from the Carolina Beach Fishing Pier to down at the end of town limits making sure locals and visitors are abiding by town ordinances.

Town Manager Michael Cramer says this position was not a good fit.

Cramer says the police department will be in charge of enforcement along the beach and will hire a new beach ranger as a sworn police officer which was not the case before.

During a recent town council meeting, Cramer says the beach ranger wrote only two civil citations over Memorial Day Weekend.
