Beach survey work begins Tuesday ahead of Oak Island nourishment project

OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — Work is set to begin Tuesday on the Pre-Construction Beach Profile Survey, an early step in Oak Island’s upcoming Beach Nourishment Project.
According to the Town of Oak Island, surveying firm Gahagan & Bryant Associates will lead the effort, conducting both land and water operations over the next one to two weeks, weather permitting.
According to town officials, residents and visitors may notice a truck bearing the GBA logo and equipped with GPS gear operating on the beach. A small, clearly marked survey boat will also take hydrographic measurements near the shoreline. The town notes that the vessel may approach closely to shore during the process, this is normal and not a cause for concern.
Those fishing or swimming nearby are asked to temporarily reel in their lines or move out of the area while the survey boat passes.
This work marks a key step in preparation for Oak Island’s upcoming beach nourishment efforts aimed at restoring and protecting the town’s shoreline.
