Beaver causes power outage for hundreds in Pender County

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A busy beaver is being blamed for a brief power outage that affected parts of Burgaw and Rocky Point on Thursday morning.

According to Four County Electric Membership Corporation, the first outage notification came in around 7:30 a.m. When crews arrived, they found a fallen tree that had been chewed through at its base by a beaver.

The damaged tree caused a loss of power for more than 800 customers in the Herrings Chapel Road area.

Crews were able to make repairs quickly, and power was restored within about 30 minutes.
