Behind the scenes of the Combined Cycle Plant
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Today WWAY took a behind the scenes tour of the new Sutton Energy Complex which uses natural gas to create the energy we use to power our homes and businesses rather than coal.
Operations superintendent Thomas Hanes said Duke Energy is trying to transform they way they do business by shutting down old inefficient coal plants and moving to more reliable energy.
“They’re much cleaner. They’re much more reliable. And they’re much more beneficial to the customer,” said Hanes.
Hanes worked at the coal plant as well and said the transition has been relatively easy. He said the old coal plant will be completely gone in about two years and it will e replaced by a grassy area.
