Belville beginning work on Highway 133 pedestrian pathway

BELVILLE, NC (WWAY) — Work has begun on the Belville community multi-use path along highway 133.

The 0.521 mile pedestrian multi-use pathway will run parallel to the roadway as a 10 foot wide asphalt multipath that will be accessible to pedestrians and bicycles. This will allow Belville and surrounding residents better access to the Belville Riverwalk, Belville Elementary and new developments like Westport Lofts along Hwy 133, according to a press release.

The multi-use path will start at the community of Hawkeswater and run parallel to Hwy 133 on the west side of the highway. The path will end across from the entrance to the Rice Hope Run neighborhood.

“Our hope is the work will be complete by the beginning of 2025, so parents in surrounding communities may walk their kids to Belville Elementary in the New Year. Hopefully, this will help alleviate some of the traffic on Hwy 133,” said Belville Mayor, Mike Allen.

The construction is expected to take 6 months and finish on December 30, 2024.
