BELVILLE, NC (WWAY) — The town of Belville joins municipalities across our area as it hosts a Memorial Day ceremony this morning. The ceremony was held at Belville Riverwalk Park’s Veteran’s Memorial.

The ceremony hosted a singing of the national anthem, veteran speakers, and the placing of a memorial wreath. Army veteran and Belville Mayor Mike Allen said the ceremony is held at the park each year. He added that the holiday is a somber day for many veterans.

“Any veteran, you don’t like to concentrate on the bad times, it’s the good times that you think about, but Memorial Day is a day we need to reflect on all the men and women who have given their service to this country,” he said.

Allen noted although the day is somber for some, it’s also important to celebrate individuals who were brave enough to sacrifice their life for our freedom of others.
