Belville voters turn out to choose next mayor
BRUNSWICK COUNTY (WWAY) — Voters arrived at Belville Elementary in waves all afternoon to vote for Belville Mayor.
Both candidates, Chuck Bost and Nia Moore, were there greeting and chatting with voters.
After Mayor Mike Allen died a few months ago, Bost stepped in to serve as acting mayor, and he is hopeful to keep that seat.
Nia Moore is running in her first ever mayoral election, and is enjoying every minute of it.
Both candidates expressed what they would do for the Town of Belville if elected.
“After the passing of Mayor Allen, I was appointed as the acting mayor, and since then I’ve tried to make sure that we restart the downtown project, make sure we’re doing the green space and securing that, and also had a study for stormwater and flood mitigation feasibility, so we can get a number on that and try to figure out a permanent resolution for that, while making sure that we complete the multiuse path, that we also complete the breaking grounds for the extension of the River Walk, and, like I said, trying to make sure the downtown gets started again,” said Chuck Bost.
“I would like to see control roads; we have a lot of arterial roads where if a wreck happens on the Cape Fear River Bridge, people can’t get access to the hospitals. Yes, we’re having things developed here, but how are we going to get across the bridge if there was an emergency right now. Our water and sewer is behind, our postal codes are behind, and a lot of that infrastructure needs to come up to par, per capita, with each individual that moves here,” said Nia Moore.
Both candidates plan to watch the results from home tonight.
