BEMC announces upcoming transition to time-based structure

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation Wednesday announced an upcoming shift to a time-based rate structure and a Base Facility Charge adjustment, set to take effect for energy consumed beginning November 1.
BEMC says this change is designed to provide members with greater control over their energy costs by offering opportunities to save when shifting energy use to off-peak hours.
The transition to time-based rates means the price of electricity will vary depending on the time of day.
They say the new structure empowers members to directly influence their monthly bills by strategically managing their energy consumption and utilizing power during lower-cost, off-peak periods.
“Our commitment to providing reliable and affordable energy to our members remains our top priority,“ said Josh Winslow, CEO of BEMC. “This transition to time-based rates empowers our members with more control over their energy expenses. By understanding and adjusting their energy usage, members have the opportunity to directly benefit from lower costs during off-peak times.”
The peak times will adjust seasonally:
- Winter Peak Hours: 6:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m., October 16 – April 15
- Summer Peak Hours: 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., April 16 – October 15
In addition, BEMC is increasing the Base Facility charge from $29.75 to $35 for residential accounts.
BEMC says this adjustment is necessary to address rising capacity costs, operational expenses, and ongoing investments in infrastructure that ensure reliable service for all members.
