BEMC awards educators in Brunswick and Columbus counties for “Bright Ideas”

SUPPLY, N.C. (WWAY) – Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation awarded more than $34,000 in Bright Ideas education grants to 29 teachers in Brunswick and Columbus Counties.
The grants will fund engaging classroom learning projects that will impact thousands of students.
“Brunswick Electric is extremely appreciative of our amazing educators,” said Dan Strickland, BEMC board member. “We are proud to support their classroom innovation, which helps strengthen the communities that we serve.”
BEMC is one of 26 member-owned electric cooperatives in the state offering Bright Ideas grants to local educators. Since 1994, BEMC has contributed nearly $800,000 to area teachers, and North Carolina’s electric cooperatives collectively have awarded more than $15 million in Bright Ideas funding for over 14,200 projects supporting teachers and benefitting more than 3.5 million students.
Grant applications are collected each year through mid-September, and a panel of judges selects winning proposals in a competitive evaluation process. The application process will reopen for interested teachers in April 2024.
