Ben David’s departure: District Attorney of 20 years to step down next week

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — Ben David is concluding his 20-year time as District Attorney for New Hanover and Pender Counties.

Reflecting on his career, he expresses deep gratitude, saying, “Thank you for making me the luckiest guy I know to do a job I love with the people I love in a place I love.”

Throughout his time in office, David has valued the personal connections he’s made.

“There are many notable cases, but what truly matters are the individual moments with victims and their families. Seeing them receive justice is priceless,” he shares.

David’s commitment has always been about giving a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves.

“I promised 20 years ago to advocate for victims in the courthouse, and I’ve strived to keep that promise every day,” he says.

He believes that addressing youth violence is key to combating crime.

“We need to involve young people in these discussions, and adults must lead the way in ensuring their safety and well-being,” he explains.

Despite his long service, David views his role as a responsibility to the community.

“This chair belongs to the people of New Hanover and Pender Counties. I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve, and it’s up to you to decide who will occupy it next.”

As he transitions from his role, David is taking on a new challenge as CEO of a Criminal Justice Center dedicated to supporting domestic violence victims.

Located in the Harrelson Center in downtown Wilmington, this new initiative will bring together law enforcement, legal experts, and nonprofits to provide comprehensive services to those in need.
