Best high school volleyball team in New Hanover County? WCA earns it

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Monday’s encounter between Hoggard High and Wilmington Christian Academy was billed as the showdown to determine the top high school volleyball team in New Hanover County. In a non-conference affair Wilmington Christian defeated Hoggard 3-1. The Vikings won the first game, but WCA came back to win 25-20, 25-23 and 25-20. WCA’s record is now 24-3. Head coach Tonya Upton earned her 500th career victory. Ellie Kohl had 14 kills. “This was a great win for us going into the state tournament,” Upton told WWAY after the match. “I am very proud of them.”

WCA is now 24-3 overall. Hoggard drops to 11-2. Hoggard is currently 10-o in the Mideastern Conference this season. This was the first Hoggard-WCA matchup in volleyball since in nearly two decades.
