Big Macs for the Battleship runs through Monday

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Eat a Big Mac. Save a landmark. That’s the goal of this weekend’s second annual Big Macs for the Battleship campaign.

For the second year in a row, McDonald’s is launching Big Macs for the Battleship to help raise money to restore the USS North Carolina.

Starting today and continuing through Monday, 50 cents from every Big Mac sold at participating restaurants will be donated to the restoration fund of the ship.

“We are proud to continue to help support the Battleship in its endeavors to maintain the historical integrity of the ship,” local McDonald’s owner/operation Denny Anderson said in a statement. “By partnering with the North Carolina, McDonald’s is helping restore the state’s (World War II) Memorial that honors the Greatest Generation and all who have served.”

Earlier this spring the Battleship announced it still needs about $6 million toward a goal of $17 million for repairs of the ship’s rusting hull.

Last year’s Big Macs for the Battleship raised more than $4,000 for restoration. Anderson personally donated another $25,000.

Participating McDonald’s locations include Burgaw, Carolina Beach, Clinton, Fairmont, Hampstead, Leland, Lumberton, Newton Grove, Pembroke, Rocky Point, Shallotte, Southport, St. Pauls, Sunset Beach, Supply, Surf City, Wallace, Warsaw, Whiteville and Wilmington, in North Carolina, and Darlington and Hartsville in South Carolina.
