Biker group continues tradition giving bicycles for Toys for Tots
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – We’re coming up quickly on the holiday season and a local biker group is making sure Wilmington kids get their very own set of wheels for Christmas.
The Harley Owners Group has for four years now donated bikes to the local toys for tots campaign. The bikers have gone from donating thirty bicycles to now more than two hundred in those years.
For them it’s the best way they know to bring a gift to those kids in need this Christmas while also giving them a new lease on life, hitting the road on two wheels.
“We all started out on two wheels ourselves and that’s what we still ride is two wheels,” said Richard Porter who started the donation drive. “Cept we’ve got a few of us that’s got three, but most of us got two wheels and that’s our whole idea is get em on two wheels and keep em on two wheels.”
The group will host a build day putting all the bikes together this upcoming Sunday. They plan to work with toys for tots to give them out December 2nd at the non profit’s race.
