Bill to add trash trucks to NC ‘move over’ law gets final OK
RALEIGH, NC (AP) — The General Assembly has agreed to add garbage trucks to the list of parked or standing vehicles that motorists must change lanes or slow down for under North Carolina’s “move over” law.
The House on Wednesday approved the Senate changes in the bill, which now goes to Gov. Pat McCrory’s desk.
The measure in part places trash and recycling trucks with flashing lights on the list of emergency and public service vehicles covered under the law. They include first-responder vehicles with lights flashing and others with flashing lights helping stranded motorists, restoring power or performing highway maintenance.
Violating the law can result in fines or even a low-grade felony in some situations.
