Bladen County man sentenced to more than 13 years in prison for attempted sex crimes against minor

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A man in Bladen County has been sentenced to prison for sex crimes against a minor.

Brandon Melvin was sentenced to more than 13 years (164 months to 257 months) in prison for Attempted Statutory Sex Offense, Indecent Liberties with a Child, and Crime Against Nature.

Melvin plead guilty in an open courtroom before the victim and her family along with members of the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office. He was ordered to register as a sex offender for life. Additionally, the Court ordered that the defendant was to be placed on satellite-based monitoring and not to have any contact with the victim for life.

The assault occurred near a hog farm in the Clarkton area of Bladen County. The victim was visiting family members at the time Brandon Melvin lured the child to an area at the back of the farm. The victim reported to family members the assault, who then reported the events to the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office.
