Bladen County Schools students secure state titles at Elementary and Junior Beta Club Convention
BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Bladen County Schools getting high marks at this year’s Elementary and Junior Beta Club State Convention in Greensboro.
Many students brought home awards and state officer titles. Three students from Bladen County Schools now hold a state position for the Elementary and Junior Beta Club. A Senior Beta Club member received a $2,000 scholarship.
The Beta Club recognizes academic achievement, character, leadership, and service. Every year, a state convention showcases the talents and work of its members and elect’s officers.
Jayden Ruffin attends Bladenboro Middle School. He was elected as N.C. Junior Beta Club President. He said it takes a special person to hold a state position.
“You have to be very nice to people. Persevere and let’s show Beta who we are,” Ruffin said.
Ariana Gore, a Bladenboro Primary School student and newly elected N.C. Elementary Beta Club Vice President, said she checked all the boxes to run for office.
“I was thinking that I have all of those characteristics and I wanted to run for Vice President so I can make my friends and family proud,” Gore said.
Miguel Ventura from Clarkton School of Discovery said he will never forget the moment he won N.C. Junior Beta Club Vice President.
“I was really excited; I was proud of myself. I was happy I was able to come this far and that all this preparation wasn’t for nothing,” Ventura said.
He said he’s always wanted to hold a state officer title and looks up to those who came before him. Someone like East Bladen High School’s Jair McElveen, who has held the title of state president and now holds the honor of receiving a scholarship for his studies.
He said he wants to show the younger Beta Club members that through hard work, dreams can come true.
“Also it’s given me the ability to speak out and make sure my voice is heard,” McElveen said.
In June 2024, the National Junior Beta Convention will be held in Savannah Georgia.
Students are hopeful to attend, and they have their fingers crossed for national titles.
