Bladenboro Mayor cited for open container violation

BLADENBORO, NC (WWAY) — According to court documents, the Bladenboro Mayor was issued a citation for having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle.

David Hales Jr. was cited by the NC Highway Patrol on Saturday on NC 131 near SR 1119.

Hales was cited for having an expired registration plate and for having an open container.

Comments from the charging officer say, “Subject had been drinking. Strong odor of alcohol within vehicle and multiple opened cans of Busch Light in floorboard.”

Hales is due in court on February 20, 2026.
