Boater struck by lightning near Scotts Hill

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) —  A 53 year old man was struck by lightning Sunday afternoon while idling in a boat near Marsh Creek at Scott’s Hill Marina, according to the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.

Capt. Kyle Van Althuis with NC Wildlife said bystanders performed CPR before emergency crews arrived. The victim, Jason Gurganus, was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. His current condition has not been released.

There was one passenger on the boat who was not injured.

The incident happened during a period of active weather in the area.
