BOE: Pender County school funding insufficient

PENDER COUNTY, (News Release) — On June 24, 2015, the Pender County Board of Education approved a resolution that the amounts of money appropriated by the Pender County Board of County Commissioners for the 2015-16 school year to the Board of Education’s local current expense fund and capital outlay fund are not sufficient under North Carolina law.

The passage of this resolution begins a statutory process to address differences between the Board of Education and Board of County Commissioners as to the amount of school funding.  The process encourages open communications between the two boards, beginning with a joint public meeting and followed by mediation.

The Board of Education looks forward to the opportunity to have constructive discussions with the Board of County Commissioners about the critical needs of the Pender County Schools and how those needs can be addressed.
