COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A boil water advisory is in place for some customers in Columbus County after contractors accidentally struck a water line.

According to Columbus County officials, local contractors inadvertently damaged one of the water lines connected to the Columbus County Public Water Supply System in Water and Sewer District III.

Crews are working to repair the break and restore normal service.

Customers affected include those along Peacock Road between 3067 Peacock Road and 4944 Peacock Road.

Officials say the repair and temporary reversal of water flow in the system may cause water quality issues, including discolored water.

Customers who notice discolored water are asked to call the county’s after-hours line to report the issue.

County staff say they will continue monitoring the system while repairs are underway.

Officials expect the water to clear within the next 24 hours. Until then, residents in the affected area are advised to boil water used for drinking or food preparation.
