WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — CFPUA has scheduled a precautionary boil water advisory starting overnight Wednesday, March 25, for part of North Lumina Avenue and surrounding areas in Wrightsville Beach.

Starting at 9 p.m. Wednesday, crews will be replacing broken valves in the water distribution system. During the work, customers may experience a temporary loss of water pressure.

Following the work, approximately 200 customers will be under a precautionary boil water advisory at the following addresses:

  • The 400 through 1000 blocks of North Lumina Avenue
  • All of East Augusta Street
  • All of Asheville Street East and West
  • All of Fayetteville Street East and West
  • All of Oxford Street East and West
  • All of Henderson Street East and West
  • All of Greensboro Street East and West

Periods of low or no pressure in the water distribution system increase the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.

When under a boil water advisory, customers are asked to boil their water for one minute, then allow it to cool prior to consumption. Alternatively, they may use another water source such as bottled water.

Consumption includes drinking, brushing teeth, making ice, food preparation, fruit and vegetable washing, pet consumption, and the preparation of baby formula. Customers do not need to boil water prior to using it for showering or bathing.

Before a boil water advisory is lifted, CFPUA lab staff test the water to ensure it is safe to drink.
