Boiling Spring Lakes to renovate former police department building
BOILING SPRING LAKES, NC (WWAY) — An old building in Boiling Spring Lakes will soon get a new lease on life.
The city plans to renovate its former police department building into a senior center and library.
The building has been left unused since the department moved into a new building in 2023.
Currently, the city’s library consists of just several shelves and a room inside City Hall.
the city already has the money needed to cover the cost of the renovation.
Mayor Jeff Winecoff said this renovation will help a large, underserved group of the community.
“Well the biggest thing is we have a lot of day camp at our community center,” Winecoff said. “And when the kids are there, the seniors really don’t have a place to have a meal and that’s one, something that’s important to them. So we want them to have a place they can come, have a meal and actually hang out if they want to. And the kids can have their thing over there and do their thing.”
Winecoff said the city hopes to finish the renovations by the winter of this year.
