Bolton man sentenced at least 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to attempted murder

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Columbus County man was sentenced to at least 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to attempted murder from 2023.

According to a press release, on April 26th, 2023, law enforcement was dispatched to a domestic violence call along US 74/76.

A woman and child escaped from Gregory Johnson’s home on Andrew Jackson Highway East.

When the two officers started moving the woman and child to a safer area, Johnson shot at them, hitting a Columbus County sheriff deputy’s patrol car at least 7 times.

Miraculously, no law enforcement officers were hurt during this shootout, and Johnson ultimately surrendered wearing a bulletproof vest.
