Bolton man sentenced to 21 years in prison on gun, drug charges

BOLTON, NC (WWAY) — A Bolton man was sentenced to 21 years in prison on various gun and drug charges.

On June 28, 2024, Charles Elliott Brown, 30, of Bolton, was sentenced in Federal Court for multiple charges, including Possession of a Firearm by a Felon and Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine.

The case began on November 1, 2021, when the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Brown. The vehicle’s tags were registered to another person.

During the stop, deputies discovered two firearms concealed in the glove box, one of which was reported stolen from Bladen County. Brown was arrested and charged with two counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Driving While License Revoked, and Possession of a Stolen Firearm. He was released on bond the same day.

On January 10, 2022, Brown was served warrants for Failure to Appear on the aforementioned charges, along with additional charges including four counts of Sell and Deliver Schedule II Controlled Substance, three counts of Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, Deliver Schedule II Controlled Substance, Possession of Firearm by a Felon, and a Parole Violation. He was subsequently taken into custody by the Department of Corrections.

While in custody for the Parole Violation in Craven County, Brown was transported to Columbus County on August 23, 2023, where he was served with federal warrants.

He made his first appearance in Federal Court in Wilmington, NC, on August 25, 2023.

Brown waived his right to a bond hearing, remaining in federal custody until he pled guilty to the federal charges.
