The 77-year-old woman arrested in an ‘ambush’ that killed a Darlington County deputy on July 1 was denied bond Monday morning.

The S.C. Circuit Judge R. Lawton McIntosh denied Linda Dennett, 77, bond for the time being on charges of misprision of a felony and obstruction of justice in connection with the ambush.

Two deputies helped Dennett get into the courtroom, as she’s confined to a wheel chair.

An affidavit in the case says Deputy Devin Mason and another deputy encountered Linda Dennett, Cameron Dennett’s mother, in her bedroom.

“Linda Dennett told deputies they woke her up, Cameron Dennett was not there, and requested deputies to leave,” the affidavit said. “As Deputy Mason approached the attached bathroom door, Cameron Dennett began discharging his handgun towards deputies.”

The deputy was struck, and Mason began discharging his department-issued weapon towards Cameron Dennett.

The affidavit said both Mason and Cameron Dennett are dead as a result of the exchange.
