Breweries officially ‘on tap’ for Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Breweries are now a defined class of business in Wilmington’s city code.

Wilmington City Council voted on a final approval for breweries in the Port City Tuesday night. The change allows small local breweries to open up in areas already zoned for restaurants. Supporters said the change is a boost to the economy.

Over the past year, several craft brewers have discussed opening a location in Wilmington. But, the city code did not identify breweries as a specific type of business until now.

After several public hearings, the Wilmington City Council made the decision to make it easier for them to start up a business.
