Britney Spears arrested in California

(ABC) — Britney Spears was arrested in California on Wednesday night, according to Ventura County Sheriff’s Office records.
Records indicate she was released early Thursday morning. The arresting agency was the California Highway Patrol, records state.
Spears was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A BMW 430i, which was reported for driving erratically at high speed, was located and stopped by CHP officers, according to CHP.
Once stopped, Spears, the sole occupant of the vehicle, showed signs of impairment and took field sobriety tests, according to the CHP. The results of the chemical test are pending, and the incident is still under investigation.
Spears is slated to appear in Ventura County Superior Court on May 4, 2026, according to arrest records.
Ventura County is a coastal region in Southern California which shares a border with Los Angeles to the southeast.
A representative for Spears shared a statement with ABC News on Thursday following the singer’s arrest.
“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” the statement read. “Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”
The statement noted that Spears’ sons Sean Preston Federline and Jayden James Federline, whom she shares with ex Kevin Federline, “are going to be spending time with her.”
“Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being,” the statement added.
