Brunswick County Board of Elections releases number of outstanding ballots

BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — The Brunswick County Board of Elections has released the number of outstanding absentee ballots for this month’s municipal elections because there are some close contests in the county.

Municipality

Sanitary District

H2Go – 15; Southeast Brunswick Sanitary District – 2

In Southport, Mayor Joe Pat Hatem is leading Alderman Rich Alt by just three votes: 833 to 830.

In Northwest, Mayor James Knox is losing to a write-in candidacy by Sheila Grady, but the margin is much bigger than in Southport. Grady received 120 votes so far, while Knox received 48 votes.

A statement from the Board of Elections says, “It’s important to provide transparency and up-to-date information to all stakeholders, including voters, candidates, and the general public.” The Board adds, “It is important to understand that these figures are unofficial and may not accurately represent the final count of approved ballots.”
