BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WWAY) — The Brunswick County Library have expanded access to library resources across the county with the launch of its new Bookmobile.

As a mobile branch of the Brunswick County Library, the Bookmobile plays an important role in bringing services to underserved areas of the county, and enriching the community with lifelong learning and entertainment.

With the Bookmobile, community members can:

  • Get a library card
  • Browse and check out materials
  • Place materials on hold from other branches to be picked up at your Bookmobile stop
  • Return materials
  • Attend programs
  • Get assistance with online resources
  • Use free public Wi-Fi

“This new mobile Library branch brings the wide variety of resources and services that we offer to the community,” Library Director Patricia Dew said. “I am excited to reach community members who may not be able to make it to one of our existing Library branches.”

Brunswick County Library purchased the Bookmobile in 2024 from Matthews Specialty Vehicles in Greensboro, for $293,320 using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA)-enabled funds and the County’s General Fund.

The Bookmobile was delivered to Brunswick County in February 2026 and started following its travel schedule in March 2026.

The Bookmobile features:

  • Multiple book collections
  • An ADA-compatible wheelchair lift
  • Book carts which can be removed for pop-up displays
  • Speakers wired to a public address system
  • An awning
  • Heating and air conditioning

There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, March 16, 2026, to celebrate the new Bookmobile. Community members are encouraged to attend.
